Civil War Research

Jefferson Davis

Jefferson Davis (born June 3, 1808) was the leader of the Confederacy during America's Civil War. Raised on plantations in Mississippi and Louisiana, he needed slavery to remain for his prosperity to continue. While  a senator he disagreed with secession (the withdrawal of one or more states) but acknowledged each state's right to secede. A lot of the Confederacy's weaknesses have been traced back to Davis.
